Selena
She was an artist, creator, and performer who broke boundaries in the music world. Her dual character as the Mexican American singer was traditional and contemporary. She helped bring Tejano to mainstream fame in an innovative way. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, it is what happens often when a bright deeply genial singer dies too young, it has left many mourning all the untapped potential. In the following years, people were encouraged to push themselves harder to make sure that Selena's accomplishments would not go unnoticed. Selena, the Tejano artist who was tragically killed during a shooting incident, sparked the Latino reaction that could be thought of as similar to the reactions to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's deaths. Selena was a hugely well-known Latino artist throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and inspired younger and more mature adults. Selena was an asexual glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes known as her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
